Special requirements

As you will be aware new legislation regarding the carriage of PRM’s ( Passengers with Reduced Mobility), came into effect in July 2008.   Additional SSR codes have been added to help accurately record  and describe disabilities which passengers may have.  This will assist the airline and the airport handling company to offer the correct assistance to our passengers.

DPNA is a new code and should be used for passengers who have, as detailed below, a developmental or intellectual disability.  This would include, for example, any  passenger with learning difficulties.  If this code is used, free format text must also be used to describe the passengers condition and needs.

  • BLND* Blind passenger, specify if accompanied by seeing eye dog, (see below)
  • DEAF*  Deaf passenger, specify if accompanied by service dog. (see below)
  • DPNA  Disabled passenger with intellectual or developmental disability needing assistance (specify details)
  • MAAS Meet and Assist (specify details)
  • WCHC Wheelchair (C for Cabin Seat): passenger completely immobile; requires wheelchair to/from aircraft or mobile lounge and must be carried up/down steps and to/from cabin seat. When service animal is accompanying passenger, specify the type of animal in free text of SSR Item.
  • WCHR Wheelchair (R for Ramp): passenger can ascend/descend steps and make own way i.e. across ramp, finger dock or to/from mobile lounge, as applicable. When service animal is accompanying passenger, specify the type of animal in free text of SSR Item.
  • WCHS Wheelchair (S for Steps): passenger cannot ascend/descend steps, but is able to make own way to/from cabin seat; requires wheelchair for distance to/from aircraft or mobile lounge and must be carried up/down steps. When service animal is accompanying passenger, specify the type of animal in free text of SSR Item.
  • If the passenger is travelling with a registered assistance dog, the code PETC must be used in addition to this code.  Please create a separate SSR.
