Cabin baggage

You may carry 1 piece of hand baggage on board the aircraft. The maximum permitted dimensions (please ensure that you include the bag's handles and wheels) for this item are 55 x 35 x 20cm and it should not exceed 10kg in weight. If you are travelling in Plus you may also carry a laptop.

Important information on the carriage of liquids

Passengers may take through airport security liquids such as toiletries including:

  • Perfume
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Shaving foam
  • Lip gloss

Please ensure that vessels holding liquids contain no more than 100ml each.
All individual liquid items must fit comfortably into one transparent, re-sealable bag no larger than 1 litre or approximately 20cm x 20cm (about the size of a small freezer bag). The bag must fit into the one permitted piece of cabin baggage but you will be asked to present the bag separately when going through airport security. Liquids of any amount may be carried in luggage checked into the aircraft hold.

Dangerous items

The following items will be refused and confiscated by the airport security officers under the guidelines of the Department of Transport. All dangerous items listed will not be carried.

Sharp items such as scissors, knives of any description, tools and sharp accessories including screwdrivers, imitation toy guns, hypodermic needles, sporting equipment or any item which may be considered to be a safety risk to the passengers or crew, are prohibited from the aircraft cabin and must be packed in Hold Baggage.

Dangerous items include the following:

  • Aqualung cylinders which are filled
  • Bleaches
  • Camping gas cylinders
  • Cigarette lighters including refills
  • Corrosive materials
  • Deeply refrigerated gases - liquid nitrogen
  • Explosives
  • Fireworks of any description
  • Flares
  • Flammable & non flammable gas - aerosols
  • Flammable liquids including paints
  • Thinners and solvents
  • Flammable solids including firelighters
  • gas cylinders of all descriptions
  • Infectious substances
  • Mace spray
  • Mercury
  • Oxidising materials
  • Organic peroxides
  • Poisons
  • Tear gas
  • Radioactive materials

Items which are deemed dangerous or may affect the safety of the aircraft and/or its occupants will be confiscated. If you have any doubts regarding the suitability of an item, please contact the Flybe Customer Call Centre for further advice.

Excess baggage

Excess baggage is carried on a standby basis only. Carriage will only take place if there is sufficient space available in the aircraft hold and will be subject to a charge (currently £12 (€14, 20CHF) per kilo for the first 3 kilos, £15 (€17, 25CHF) per kilo for between 4 and 6 kilos and £20 (€23, 34CHF) for every kilo there after). Charges may vary for franchise or code share routes not operated by Flybe, and will be applied at the prevailing rate when payment is made. Exceptional items

Exceptional items may be carried at a charge of  £30 (€37, 50 CHF)  per exceptional item per sector. Carriage is subject to space and weight and not as part of the personal allowance. Charge is applied regardless of any other baggage allowance. See bellow for details:

Golfing equipment

Golf clubs may be pre-booked within 24 hours of making your flight booking through the Flybe Customer Call Centre. In the event that our ski or golf club numbers have already been reached on your flights then you can cancel your booking with no penalty within 24 hours of the booking being made. In the event that our pre-booked golf club numbers have already been reached then your golf clubs will be accepted on a stand by basis only and no pre-booking is required.

The golf club carriage restrictions are:

  • The maximum allowable is 14 clubs in a hooded bag
  • Maximum of 12 golf balls
  • One pair of golf shoes in the checked-in baggage
  • One set of clubs only per person

Skis

Skis may be pre-booked within 24 hours of making your flight booking through the Customer Call Centre. There is a limit on the amount of skis that can be carried. This is dependant upon the operating aircraft:

  • Bombardier Q400: 10 sets of skis (Max length 1.67m / 5.6ft)
  • Embraer 195: 25 sets of skis (Max length 2.5m / 8.2ft)

In the event that our ski or golf club numbers have already been reached on your flights then you can cancel your booking with no penalty within 24 hours of the booking being made.

Windboards & surfboards

Carriage is on a stand-by basis. Flybe are able to accept boards and sails up to the following dimensions:
Flybe are able to accept boards up to the following sizes:

  • On our turboprop aircraft up to a maximum of 5 feet 6 inches in length
  • (Bombardier Q400: 4.5 feet in length)
  • On our jet aircraft up to a maximum of 10 feet in length
  • (Embraer 195: 10 feet in length)

Please note, if you pre-book skis or golf clubs but then choose not to carry them no refund will be given.

Scuba equipment

Flybe accept the carriage of scuba diving equipment on a stand-by basis only. Carriage will only take place if there is sufficient space within the hold of the operating aircraft.

Flybe impose the following restrictions on the carriage of scuba diving equipment and these are listed below:

  • One empty scuba diving tank.
  • One air supply regulator and pressure gauge.
  • One air tank harness.
  • One face mask / pair of diving fins and snorkel.

With the gauge reading zero as they contain compressed air which is unacceptable for carriage in accordance with IATA restricted articles regulations.

Fishing equipment

Flybe accept the carriage of fishing equipment on a stand-by basis. Carriage will only take place if there is sufficient space available in the hold of the operating aircraft.

Restrictions apply as follows:

  • One tackle box / haversack / anglers basket
  • One fishing rod bagged or boxed

All tackle boxes and rod bags will be carried in the hold of the aircraft and under no circumstance may live maggots or any other form of live bait be accepted.

Bicycles

We accept the carriage of bicycles on a stand-by basis only. Carriage will thus only take place if there is sufficient space available in the hold.

Please note that your bicycle must be prepared as follows:

  • Handlebars must be turned and locked in line with the frame.
  • Pedals must be removed or turned inwards.
  • The front wheel must be removed and securely attached to the frame.
  • The tyres must be fully deflated.
  • The bicycle should then be bagged or boxed if possible.

Pushchairs and car seats

Passengers may carry 1 pushchair or pram and 1 car seat for each child or infant. There is no charge for the carriage of pushchairs or car seats.

Musical instruments

Musical instruments are normally carried in the hold of the aircraft, please ensure that they are suitably packaged and are covered by adequate insurance.

Cellos can usually be carried in the cabin if a protected seat is purchased, as they can be secured safely in an aircraft seat. This must be booked via the Customer Call Centre.

Musical instruments are included in passenger's luggage allowance and excess baggage fees must be paid if allowance is exceeded.

All other large musical instruments such as harps, double bass, drum kits, guitars, etc. will need to be prepared and packaged for carriage in the aircraft hold. These will be carried on a standby basis only.

Any musical instrument carried within a hard case, such as a guitar or violin, may be carried as checked-in baggage into the hold of the aircraft as part of a customer's checked-in baggage allowance (excess baggage charges apply if the carriage of this item takes the weight / n umber of pieces over the passenger's baggage allowance).

Firearms

Certain firearms may be carried on Flybe services, please contact the Customer Call Centre for further information. If your firearm is approved for travel you will be required to complete a firearms declaration form (pdf). Please ensure that you print this document and complete sections A and B prior to checking in for your flight. The firearms declaration document is made up of three copies - all of which should be completed in advance and presented at check-in.

Liabilities

We shall have no liability whatsoever for damage to articles not permitted to be contained in checked Baggage, including fragile or perishable items, items having a special value, such as money, jewellery, precious metals, computers, personal electronic devices, negotiable papers, securities, or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents, or samples. Please see the General Conditions of Carriage. It is in the passenger's own interests to ensure that they have adequate travel insurance or insurance which specifically covers the item(s) that are carried onboard or within the aircraft hold(s).

Special Declaration of Interest and Supplementary Value Charge

Under the Montreal Convention, Flybe's liability for lost, damaged or delayed baggage is limited to 1131 SDRs¹. Flybe will allow passengers to declare a higher value up to a maximum of 2,000 SDRs per person, provided that the criteria below can be met. A set administration charge of £25 (€40, 55CHF) per sector will be levied separately for the outward and return flight. A receipt will be issued for this amount. This is not an insurance premium. Any subsequent claim would be subject to proven loss.

assengers who wish to declare a supplementary value may do so at the Flybe ticket desk at the airport and must present themselves, with their baggage no later than 2 hours prior to departure. The request must be made and the supplementary value charge must be paid prior to check-in. The items must be appropriately packaged and the checked item must be suitably secured or locked. Flybe reserve the right to examine the items being declared and will detail these on an inventory which will be signed by the passenger and staff member. The checked item must then be locked by the passenger in the presence of the agent. Where a passenger has declared a supplementary value for their baggage it will only be accepted on Flybe services and cannot be through checked on to any other airline.
