Flybe’s Regional Network Plays Key Role in League Two Promotion Battle

Leading regional airline welcomes both football teams on board popular routes to save time on grueling 350 mile trips

17th MAY 2017

Flybe’s regional network has played a key role in the League Two playoffs, with both Exeter City and Carlisle United football clubs using it to save precious time and energy on what would otherwise have been a long, gruelling 350-mile drive by coach to reach their respective away matches.  Flybe is the shirt sponsor of the Exeter City team who flew up to Manchester before their game in Carlisle last weekend (Sunday 14th May 2017), and Carlisle United will be taking the flight down south to Exeter from Newcastle the day before the return leg which takes place on Thursday 18th May.

Carlisle to Exeter is one of the longest journeys a team and their fans have to make in the entire Football League, clocking in at a round trip of over 700 miles. Carlisle United will take a flight from Newcastle to Exeter Airport and avoid the troubles on the road for the majority of the distance, just as Exeter City players and staff took advantage of the Exeter to Manchester route on their way up to the first leg. The game, which ended in a thrilling 3-3- draw, sets the second leg up perfectly for some late season drama. Flybe has played its part to ensure that both teams arrive for their away matches quickly and sufficiently well-rested so that they are at the top of their game and ready to battle it out for a place in the final at Wembley Stadium.

Flybe has been the Grecians’ shirt sponsor since 2002 in what is one of the longest established corporate sponsorships in the Football League.

Flybe’s Manchester hub offers an added advantage for those wanting to travel from their regional airport to destinations across the UK and all over the world. Seamless onward travel is available through Flybe’s many airline partners when booked direct with the relevant airline or through a local travel agent.
