FLYBE FUNDRAISING SOARS FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK
Leading regional airline presents cheque for £96,427 to charity partner
21st October 2015
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has raised £96,427 so far this year on behalf of its charity partner, Cancer Research UK from various fundraising initiatives and the generosity of Flybe employees and passengers.
The money was presented by the airline’s CEO, Saad Hammad during a recent visit to the Barts Cancer Institute in London, one of Cancer Research UK’s research centres.
The money has been raised by Flybe staff and passengers across the airline’s 10 bases through many events including two, month-long on-board collections held during February and June.
Mr Hammad, said: “Our crew and passengers have always embraced with real Purple passion and enthusiasm our fundraising challenges on behalf of Cancer Research UK. It has been our chosen charity partner since 2009 and I am absolutely delighted to hand over our latest contribution towards funding the life-saving work it undertakes. We look forward to raising even more in the coming months and into the New Year.”
Ed Aspel, Executive Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Cancer Research UK, added: “We are extremely grateful for all the time and effort invested by Flybe staff and passengers. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has played their part in this soaring success story. With the help of Flybe staff and passengers, we’re all working to fund research which will help beat cancer sooner.”
In its latest venture in support of Cancer Research UK, Flybe recently launched a children’s art competition to highlight the charity’s new Kids & Teens campaign, the first prize being a seven day family holiday for four. Every day around ten young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer and this new campaign aims to find cures and kinder treatments for those children and young people.
