UK’s MOST PUNCTUAL AIRLINE SAYS FORGET THE TRAIN, TAKE THE PLANE IN 2015
30 December 2014
Flybe highlights increases in rail disruption and average 2.2 per cent train fare hike
Having just been named the top UK airline for punctuality by consumer watchdog Which?,* and as rail passengers reel from the major disruption to services experienced over the past few days, Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, is highlighting the convenience and value for money that its flying option offers. Research has proved that, as well as being faster, eight out of ten Flybe routes are cheaper on average than those operated by rail. **
Regulated train fares are set to increase by an average 2.2 per cent on 2nd January 2015. This includes season tickets, single walk-up fares and off-peak services on long distance journeys.
This increase will have a significant financial impact on rail travellers and their household budgets as many face the reality of having to pay hundreds of pounds more for annual train fares with no visible improvement in service. In some cases, the 2015 rail fare increase will be more than the average annual pay rise.
Paul Simmons, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, explains: “With the significant annual increase in rail fares, flying is becoming an even more attractive option. Flybe offers the most comprehensive choice of domestic routes connecting the UK regions that now includes routes to London City.
“We have validated data which clearly shows that flying with Flybe is faster and cheaper on average than the train on eight out of ten of our routes – and that was before the latest train fare increases!”
Mr Simmons added: “Flybe is proud to have been recognised by Which? as the most punctual UK airline. At a time when travellers are looking at spending their money wisely and getting to where they want to be on time, the smarter choice has never been clearer. Our extensive network of UK routes is unrivalled and we continue to assess our services to ensure passengers are able to get from A to Flybe as quickly as possible.”
