New route to London from Cologne Bonn announced

  • Airline aims to fly 100,000 passengers in the next three years on route

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, announced today that it will offer direct daily return flights between Cologne Bonn and London Southend Airport from 3 July 2014, operated by its franchise partner, Stobart Air.

Seven daily return flights, starting from €34.99 including taxes and charges are available now for booking at

Flybe aims to carry up to 100,000 passengers on its Cologne Bonn-London Southend service within three years, starting with 35,000 passengers in year one. This news comes as Cologne- Bonn Airport was awarded the number one European Regional Airport by the World Airport Awards.

London Southend is London’s newest airport and was recently recognised by consumers as the best airport in the United Kingdom. Travel time by train from London Southend to Liverpool Street Station in the centre of London is only 53 minutes. To connect to Stratford Station in London City’s financial district only takes 40 minutes.

The airport’s new terminal is less than 100 paces from a brand new rail station, with up to eight rail services every hour. Passengers with hand luggage can travel from plane to train in just 15-minutes. Security checks at the Airport take a maximum of four minutes.

Ms Davina Pratt, Chief Operations Officer, Stobart Air said that London Southend Airport represents a value for money, easy and accessible choice for both business and leisure passengers.

Cologne and Bonn has a strong business and political community. The availability of daily return services to London Southend will provide convenience for many businesses, particularly Ford, which has operations in both Cologne and Southend.
