Islay Airport Guide

Known as the "Queen of the Hebrides" and famed for its whisky production, Islay is a popular destination for travellers who want to enjoy the tranquillity of the Western Isles. Before flying to the island, it's a good idea to plan ahead and find out more about its local transport links. To help with this, we've put together a handy guide for your use.

Location: Also known as Glenegedale Airport, the terminal is situated in the centre of the island, around 8km from the town of Port Ellen.

Transport links and parking

Although a very small airport, there are numerous options for contining your journey once you've reached the airport. With various tourists attractions in the area, including several distilleries, there's plenty to do once you arrive. 

Airport parking

Parking is provided outside the terminal free of charge, and there is also a pick-up/drop-off area. Drivers requiring parking for more than three days should use the long-stay car park. Further details are available from the terminal's information desk.

Islay Airport by public transport

A public bus runs to all towns on the island from the airport. Contact local operator B Mundell (01496 840 274) for more details or, alternatively, ask at the information desk.

Airport taxis

A number of local operators serve the airport, including Bruichladdich,  Carol MacDonald, Fiona's, Lamont's and Rhinns. Contact details can be found on the airport's website - pre-booking is advised.

Airport car hire

The airport is served by two hire companies, Islay Care Hire and D&N MacKenzie, both of which have service desks within the arrivals hall. Pre-booking is advised but not essential.

Business facilities

Owing to the airport's small size, there are no dedicated conferencing facilities. However, the onsite Fly Cuppa serves hot drinks and light snacks, making it perfect for a working lunch. Business passengers requiring meeting facilities are advised to contact local hotels to check on availability.
