Birmingham International Airport Facilities

Birmingham isn’t a large airport, but it has enough facilities to make sure its passengers enjoy their airport experience.

If you a catching an early plane out of the airport you may prefer to stay in one of the three hotels onsite.

Once you’re at the airport you can spend your time browsing the numerous shops for clothes, watches, beauty products, luggage, sportswear and magazines and books.

You can keep the children amused at the Sky Zone interactive play area which is for children up to 13 years of age. You can find it by departure gate 55.

Getting to Birmingham International Airport

Birmingham International Airport is well connected to public transport hubs and is easy to get to by car.

The airport is accessed from the M42 or the M6. Take the M42 or the M6 depending on the direction you’re coming from. You should then follow the signposts to the airport from the M42 or take the A45 which will take you directly to the airport.

Megabus and National Express travel to Birmingham Airport from various locations across the UK.. There are also local buses from Birmingham City Centre. Two of the bus services will take you directly to the airport and one takes you to the Birmingham International Train Station.

If you come into Birmingham New Street you will then have to catch a train to Birmingham International Train Station in Solihull. From there take the free monorail service to the airport. The journey takes about two minutes and it runs throughout the day and at night, apart from between the hours of 12.20 am and 2.00 am when you can use the shuttle bus service.

Travelling to and from Avignon Airport

If you are travelling by car then head south when you leave the airport. Take the N7 towards Avignon. The journey should take around 25 minutes.

There are no trains from the airport. Avignon does have a train station at the airport. There is a train station in the city centre, but these are for trains running beyond Avignon. You can catch a bus though. There is a local bus service (line 22) which runs from the airport to the train station in Avignon.


Things to See & Do in Avignon

Avignon is a pretty town on the banks of the Rhone River. It is steeped in history. You can spend hours walking through narrow cobbled streets admiring the magnificent architecture. While you’re in Avignon you can see:

Palais de Papes

The Palace of Popes is one of the largest gothic buildings in Europe. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are more than 25 rooms open to the public including the Stag Room and the chapels where you can see the original frescoes. Climb up to the roof terrace for magnificent views over Avignon and the Rhone river. 

Pont Saint-Benezet

This medieval bridge across the Rhone river was originally built in the 12th century but destroyed after forty years when Louis VIII laid siege to Avignon. Later it was rebuilt with 22 stone arches. But, it was too expensive to maintain, and the arches would regularly collapse when the Rhone river flooded. Now you can see the surviving 4 arches and the gatehouse, together with the Chapel of St Nicholas.

Musee Angladon

This small museum houses a collection of paintings from artists which include Van Gough, Degas, Cezanne, Monet and Picasso. There’s also a gift shop for souvenirs.  

Rocher Des Doms

Rocher Des Doms is a pretty park close to the Palace of Popes. You have a bit of climb to get to it, but once you’re in the park you can sit and watch the world go back in the small café. There’s also a duckpond and pedal carts for the kids. Being at a height means that it has wonderful views over the town and the river.


The Best Time to Visit Avignon

The best time to visit Avignon is between June and August. During this time you’ll get warm weather and you’ll be able to see the beautiful lavender blooms.
