The capital of Switzerland is a charmingly small city with breathtaking view of the Alps with a medieval flavour.
It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers plenty to see including the Cathedral, Clock Tower and Bear Pits (with live bears) not to mention a wealth of culture to enjoy, with many lively bars and restaurants. Berne is perfect for a relaxing weekend – or as a starting point for a ski trip. Many of Switzerlands' top resorts are within easy reach of Berne, like Wengen, Murren, Gstaad and Verbier being less the 2 hours away.
Amongst France’s mountains and alpine lakes, you will find some of Europe’s most reliable snow, and resorts like Val d’Isere and Courcheval draw the winter crowds for snow boarding, cross-country skiing and glacier walking. Chambery is the gateway to this winter wonderland, and the Old Town rewards the stroller with cobbled alleys lined with restaurants and bars. Here you can shut out the cold and reinforce yourself with Chambery’s finest – fondue savoyade – bread dipped in melted cheese spiced with local kirsch.
At the foot of the Swiss Alps and by beautiful Lake Geneva, Switzerland’s third largest city is wonderfully located and an excellent starting point for skiiing holidays. Geneva is the gateway to a host of ski resorts in both France and Switzerland. In less than 3 hours from Geneva airport you could be shussing down the slopes in Saas Fee or the famous Zermatt, or enjoying French savoyarde cuisine in Meribel or Chamonix.
Prettily placed on the Andalucian coastline in the south of Spain, Malaga offers both sun and ski – being just two hours from the Sierra Navada mountains. Lush gardens and leafy boulevards lead you past excellent shops and literally hundreds of restaurants to broad, sandy beaches blessed by year-round sunshine.
Salzburg has a lot to offer, from sightseeing tours around the city, surrounding areas and even locations from the institution that is “The Sound Of Music”, to fabulous Christmas Markets, and magnificent museums and concerts.
As the birthplace of Mozart, Salzburg celebrates its first son during Mozart week at the end of January, with a host of concerts and events dedicated to this musical genius. They even make a Mozart range of chocolates that are great souvenirs to give to friends or devour on your way home.If skiing is your main focus, Salzburg is the ideal destination for a short transfer to the popular alpine ski resorts of Saalbach Hinterglemn, Soll, or Kitzbuhl! However, even if snow, glu wein, and schussing down a mountain are your top priority, Salzburg is a popular day trip for skiers who want that bit more on their holiday.
