Another industry world first for Flybe

21 Flybe Cabin Crew to receive first ever industry-recognised professional quaification

Flybe, Europe’s largest and most successful regional airline, is proud to congratulate the 21 employees who have just become the first cabin crew members in the world to have been awarded the NVQ2 Aviation Operations in the Air for Cabin Crew qualification.
 
The Exeter-based airline, employing 3,000 staff, has become the first in the industry to certify its own cabin crew graduates. Having successfully completed training under Flybe’s new training programme, they are currently unique in the global aviation industry for being in possession of the industry-recognised NVQ2 qualification.

Flybe was the only UK airline to sign the Government Skills Pledge in June 2007 and soon after was one of the first three national employers to be given Awarding Body status. This means that Flybe training programmes received official recognition enabling it to confer qualifications from level 2 (GCSE at A*-C equivalent) to level 4 (degree equivalent) to its employees.

Simon Witts, Flybe’s Director of Safety, Quality & Training says: “Flybe is the first and only airline to have developed and completed this initial programme in such a short period of time. This is no mean achievement and is testament to the company’s commitment to providing first class staff training and development that is also actively supported by GoSkills, the transport industry’s Sector Skills’ Council.

“We are a business that sets and achieves high standards within a necessarily highly regulated industry. We are naturally delighted that 21 of our employees are the first cabin crew members in the world to attain an officially recognised NVQ2 Aviation Operations in the Air qualification.”

Flybe’s NVQ2 Aviation Operations in the Air qualification takes on average about three months to complete and a total of 88 new cabin crew members have enrolled on the programme, with plans well advanced to roll out the qualification to all existing cabin crew.
