Fast flybe turnaround rescues ‘round britain powerboat’ casualty
26 June 2008
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional low-cost airline, has helped save the day for one of the teams taking part in the 2008 Round Britain Offshore Powerboat Race by flying Jon Napier, the captain of Team 747’s ‘Fairey Spearfish’ boat - along with his broken propeller - from Glasgow to Southampton.Team 747’s propeller was damaged on Wednesday and could only be repaired in Southampton if the team was to have any hope of continuing with the race in which they are competing in the Historic Class.
Flybe’s quick, efficient and affordable flights between Glasgow and Southampton – with the return to Inverness today - are making it possible for the team to turnaround their luck and return to the race within record time.
Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer at Flybe comments: “We are thrilled to have been able to help Jon and his team return their boat to shipshape condition. With some 728 flights a week to 21 domestic and European destinations from key Scottiish airports, the team had many options to choose from in order to meet the fast turnaround time they needed to effect the repair and re-join the race.
“Flybe hopes that the repairs will now propel Team 747 to victory and we wish them all the best for the remainder of their voyage!”
