Flybe Statement on Government Security Measures Announcement
14 November 2007
Flybe today welcomed the government’s statement on improving security to protect the nation’s infrastructure. In his statement to the House of Commons, the Prime Minister signalled an increased need to step up physical protection and ‘where judged necessary, improved security at railway stations… ports and over one hundred other sensitive locations’.Commenting on the announcement, Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer said:
“Flybe compliments the Prime Minister for paying such strict attention to the nation’s security. We welcome the progressive removal of hand baggage restrictions as a clear signal that aviation is more than capable of managing its own complex security affairs. The regions of the UK rely on aviation and those passengers know how seriously their airports and airlines take this issue”.
Mr. Rutter continued:
“Aviation stepped up to the mark after 2001 and has been at the forefront of improvements to national security over the last few years. Airlines and airports have always paid for its own infrastructure improvements and we fully expect rail and maritime providers to do the same. It would be a slap in the face for UK aviation to once again see the public purse raided by the railways”.
