Tory tax plans - What the papers say
24 September 2007
Flybe is not alone in having serious concerns about the plans put forward on Thursday 13th September by the looks of things, neither do many of the British press.
Simon Heffer in The Daily Telegraph:
‘Making it more expensive to fly to Rome is not a great idea’
If David Cameron commits his party to any such policies he can kiss goodbye to any prospect of power’.
Editorial, The Sun
We’ve had enough of politicians taking our money in tax and then squandering it on pet projects.
Now Mr Cameron wants to make us pay more to jet off on holiday…… Britain contributes a tiny fraction of global pollution. Why should we wear hair shirts when China builds two new coal-fired power stations a week and Russian rivers are so polluted they catch fire?
Why must we take crowded and costly trains when the skies over newly prosperous India are thick with short-haul flights?
Without better airports and roads, business will take its factories — and jobs — elsewhere in Europe.
Mr Cameron should think carefully before he takes this risky step — or disappear without trace at the next election
Daily Express Editorial

The Daily Telegraph Editorial
"The report's authors have embraced the profoundly un-Conservative notion that people can be taxed into living their lives differently….
These tax plans must not get anywhere near the party’s manifesto for the next election.
