Unaccompanied children
Children aged between 6 years and 11 years 364 days may travel unacompanied on Flybe point to point flights.
In line with the industry standard, Flybe levies a supervisory fee of £39 (€46, 60CHF) per flight for the service provided. Although not compulsary, children between the ages of 12 and 16 years may be carried as unaccompanied children by request.
As unaccompanied children have special requirements, Flybe needs to make checks prior to a booking being made to ensure that we do not carry more than our regulations permit.
To make a reservation for an unaccompanied child please telephone the Customer Call Centre with the name, address and contact number of:
- The person taking the child to the airport of departure
- The person collecting the child at the destination airport
Check in times for unaccompanied children
Please present unaccompanied children to check in at least 1 hour prior to the flight's schedule time of departure.
Rules and regulations for unaccompanied children
To be 'accompanied', the companion of a child must be over 16 years of age.
Identification of the escort on departure & escort on arrival will be checked, and the child signed for, in line with current policy.
If a child is not travelling with their parent or legal guardian, he or she must carry their own identification. If no identification is available please contact us. You will need to send a copy of the photo identification from the parents and confirm that the child is travelling with their consent.
Passengers aged between 12 and 16 years who are not travelling as an unaccompanied child require their own photographic identification.
For passengers on international flights a valid passport or national identity card will need to be presented. Other documentation such as a visa should also be sought if required.
Spanish and French children under 18 years travelling without a parent, or legal guardian, and with an ID card must have a form of written authorisation to travel from their parent(s). The form should be collected from their local police station and must then be presented with their ID card at the check-in desk and passport control. If the child does not have this form passport control will refuse travel.
Children travelling on their own valid passport do not require the parental consent form.
A Family Book (Livret de Famille) is not sufficient ID for a child or infant to travel on international flights.
Portuguese nationals and alien residents under 18 years and leaving or re-entering Portugal unaccompanied by their father, mother or legal guardian also need a travel authorisation. The travel authorisation must be signed by the father, mother or legal guardian (If the father, mother or legal guardian reside in Portugal the signature must be notarised). Finally the signature must be authenticated by a Portuguese embassy / consulate in the country where the father, mother or legal guardian do reside.
If a person other than their father, mother or other legal guardian accompanies a child travel authorisation is also required. In such cases the travel authorisation must also clearly show the name of the accompanying person. Foreign children under 18 years and travelling alone may be refused entry if they do not have someone in Portugal taking responsibility for their stay.
Unaccompanied children are only permitted on point to point journeys where a custodian of the child is present at each end of the flight. Unaccompanied children are not permitted on flights which involve a change of aircraft en route.
Flybe may refuse travel to carry an unaccompanied child in cases where the child has not been made aware to us.
