Flybe's fair deal on second bags

In 2006 we launched our fair deal on baggage, meaning only those passengers carrying bags incurred a charge, completely unbundling the traditional airline pricing model. Since then the model has become the global norm. We are now taking our Fair deal on baggage even further, by bringing you the most affordable and generous way of carrying additional luggage amongst UK low fare airlines (see how we compare). From Tuesday 01 December 2009 if you pre-pay for 2 or more bags you will be able to carry up to 40kg of baggage - DOUBLE the current allowance!

So plan ahead and book your additional bags any time up to 4 hours before departure and fly with peace of mind that there will be no unexpected charges when you get to the airport. Then go ahead and pack that extra pair of shoes, take that extra present for the family, or simply give yourself a bit more space for all those gifts you will buy during your trip. Passengers who choose to pay for additional bags within 4 hours of the flight will not receive the additional weight allowance.

More good news, if you travel Flybe Economy Plus your allowance has now increased to 40kg completely free!

The following rates and allowances will apply for any bags booked in advance on flybe.com:

Questions & Answers

Why have you made this change?

As with our original Fair Deal on Baggage, we try to be as transparent as possible with our pricing, and continue to offer hassle free flying from and between the UK regions. Our passengers have told us that they would like the opportunity to carry more baggage without attracting the higher Excess Baggage rates.

Why do I have to pre-book to take advantage of this new lower rate?

Flybe needs to know, in advance, how many of its passengers will be carrying more than 20kg for each flight, for operational reasons. If you do not pre-book we will not be able to guarantee carriage of your bags, bags booked in advance will take priority.

How far in advance do I need to book?

The new 40kg baggage allowance is available to all passengers who pay for a second bag more than 4 hours before their flight departs.

How will services operated by Loganair be affected?

Due to the size of Loganair’s aircraft, Loganair will not be changing their baggage allowances or policies for Economy passengers. Loganair Economy Plus passengers will now be able to carry up to 30kg free of charge.

How much weight can I carry in a single bag?

For health and safety reasons we are unable to accept any single bag weighing more than 30kg. Passengers who have paid for 2 or more bags can distribute the weight between bags as they choose.

I need to carry golf clubs, can I still carry these?

Gof clubs, skis, large musical instruments and other items which do not fit in the standard baggage gauge will be carried on a space available basisfor the usual baggage charge. We are able to confirm carriage of a limited number of golf bags and skis per flight - please contact the Customer Call Centre within 24 hours of making your booking.

Are there any exceptions to this new policy?

Because we also need to allow passengers to carry skis, your additional 20kg will only be carried on a space available basis if you are travelling to or from the following airports; Chambery, Berne, Geneva and Salzburg.  If we are unable to carry your bag to any of these destinations we will refund your second bag fee.  This does not affect any skis confirmed through the Customer Call Centre.

The cost of doubling your baggage allowance with other airlines...
