Baggage

General baggage restrictions

Please note the following rules and regulations regarding your baggage.
  • Hold baggage for Flybe Economy Plus passengers
    30kg per person (excluding infants)
  • Hand baggage for Flybe Economy Plus passengers
    Maximum permitted dimensions = 50cm x 35cm x 23cm.
    Max weight = 10kg 
  • Hold baggage for Economy passengers
    20 kg per person (excluding infants)
  • Hand baggage for Economy passengers
    Maximum permitted dimensions = 50cm x 35cm x 23cm.
    Max weight = 10kg in one bag.
The maximum permissible weight for a single item of checked in baggage is 30kg.

Inportant information on the carriage of liquids

Passengers can now take through airport security liquids such as toiletries including

  • perfume
  • toothpaste
  • deodorant
  • shaving foam 
  • lip gloss

provided they are no bigger than 100ml each.

All individual liquid items must fit comfortably into one transparent, re-sealable bag no larger than 1 litre or approximately 20cm x 20cm (about the size of a small freezer bag). The bag must fit into the one permitted piece of cabin baggage (a maximum of 50cm x 35cm x 23cm), but passengers will be asked to present the bag separately when going through airport security. Liquids of any amount can still be carried in luggage checked into the aircraft hold.

Dangerous items
The following items will be refused and confiscated by the airport security officers under the guidelines of the Department of Transport. All dangerous items listed will not be carried.

Sharp items such as scissors, knives of any description, tools and sharp accessories including screwdrivers, imitation toy guns, hypodermic needles, sporting equipment or any item which may be considered to be a safety risk to the passengers or crew, are prohibited from the aircraft cabin and must be packed in Hold Baggage.

Dangerous items include the following
  • Aqualung cylinders which are filled
  • Bleaches
  • Camping gas cylinders
  • Cigarette lighters including refills
  • Corrosive materials
  • Deeply refrigerated gases - liquid nitrogen
  • Explosives
  • Fireworks of any description
  • Flares
  • Flammable & non flammable gas - aerosols
  • Flammable liquids including paints
  • Thinners and solvents
  • Flammable solids including firelighters
  • gas cylinders of all descriptions
  • Infectious substances
  • Mace spray
  • Mercury
  • Oxidising materials
  • Organic peroxides
  • Poisons
  • Tear gas
  • Radioactive materials

Any other item not listed above which is deemed at or on inspection at check-in to be either dangerous (or will affect the safety of the aircraft and/or it's occupants) will be confiscated.

Excess baggage
Excess baggage is carried on a standby basis only. Carriage will only take place if there is sufficient space available in the aircraft hold and will be subject to a charge of GBP9.00 per kilo. Charges may vary for franchise or code share routes not operated by Flybe. For further information, contact the Flybe Customer Call Centre.

Other types of baggage

Please note all exceptional item charges are per item per sector.

Exceptional items (golf clubs, bicycles, musical instruments etc.)  may be carried at a charge of GBP22.50, EUR35.00, CHF52.00 per exceptional item. Snowboards and Surfboards GBP22.50, EUR35.00, CHF52.00 per exceptional item.  Carriage is subject to space and weight and not as part of the personal allowance. Charge is applied regardless of any other baggage allowance. Please note credit/debit card fees will apply on exceptional item charges, however payment can be made by cash or cheque at the desk.

Golfing equipment

Golf clubs may be pre-booked within 24 hours of making your flight booking through the Customer Call centre and will be charged at GBP22.50, EUR35.00, CHF52.00 per set per sector. In the event that our ski or golf club numbers have already been reached on your flights then you can cancel your booking with no penalty within 24 hours of making your booking. In the event that our pre booking golf club numbers have already been reached your golf clubs will be accepted on a stand by basis only and no pre booking is required.

Skis
Skis may be pre-booked within 24 hours of making your flight booking through the Customer Call centre and will be charged at GBP22.50, EUR35.00, CHF52.00 per set per sector. There is a limit on the amount of skis that can be carried which is dependant on the aircraft type: 

  • Bombardier Q400 10 sets of skis (Max length 1.67m / 5.6ft)
  • BAe 146 40 sets of skis (Max length 2.5m / 8.2ft)
  • Boeing 737 40 sets of skis (Max length 3m / 10ft)
  • Embraer 195 25 sets of skis (Max length 2.5m / 8.2ft)

In the event that our ski or golf club numbers have already been reached on your flights then you can cancel your booking with no penalty within 24 hours of making your booking.

Bicycles
Bicycles must be prepared as follows: Handlebars must be turned and locked in line with the frame, pedals must be removed or turned inwards, the front wheel must be removed and securely attached to the frame and the tyres must be fully deflated. The bicycle should then be bagged or boxed if possible.

Surfboards & Snowboards

Surfboards, snowboards, windboards and sails are carried on a standby basis at a charge of GBP22.50, EUR35.00, CHF52.00 per sector.
Flybe are able to accept boards up to the following sizes:

  • On our Bombardier Q400 aircraft up to 4.5 feet in length
  • On our jet aircraft (BAe146, Boeing 737 and Embraer 195) up to 10 feet in length

Please note if you pre-book skis or golf clubs but then choose not to carry them no refund will be given.

Liabilities

We shall have no liability whatsoever for damage to articles not permitted to be contained in checked Baggage, including fragile or perishable items, items having a special value, such as money, jewellery, precious metals, computers, personal electronic devices, negotiable papers, securities, or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents, or samples. Please see the General Conditions of Carriage. It is in the passenger’s own interests to ensure that they have adequate travel insurance or insurance which specifically covers the item(s) that are carried onboard or within the aircraft hold(s).

 

  1. A Bag weighing up to 20kgs being placed in the aircraft hold will be charged at a rate of GBP13.00, EUR19.00, CHF27.00 per bag per one way flight. A discounted rate of GBP7.99, EUR11.00, CHF17.00 per bag per one way flight will be charged if bags are booked up to two hours prior to departure through Flybe.com. No refund will be given on this discounted rate.
  2. Payment must be made in full by either cash or credit/debit card. Split forms of payment are not permitted.
  3. The maximum permissible weight for a single item of checked in baggage is 30kgs.
  4. Flybe Economy Plus passengers may carry bags up to the allowance of 30kgs free of charge.
  5. Excess baggage charges of £9.00 per kilo will be applied at the airport to any passenger carrying over their baggage allowance.
  6. No refunds will be given if more bags are booked than are carried.
  7. Any bag containing sharp items must be checked in and carried in the hold and charges will apply.
  8. Cabin baggage allowance is 10kgs only carried in one bag.
  9. All cabin baggage must fit into the gauge at the airport and will be weighed. Any bags exceeding either size or weight must be checked in and hold charges will apply.
  10. No baggage charges will be levied on unaccompanied minors.
  11. Exceptional items such as golf clubs or skis will be charged at the applicable rate as detailed in flight information and not as baggage e.g. golf clubs will be charged at £22.50 per sector.
  12. Any passengers travelling on a through ticket with an international flight sector on another carrier will not be charged. Please note both sectors must be on same ticket using through fare.
  13. If you are travelling on two flights which has a single flight number eg. Belfast to Jersey connecting through Gatwick, you will only pay one baggage charge for this flight. If however your flights are not on a single flight number (one flight number all the way through) then single charges will apply.
  14. Infants are not entitled to any baggage allowance.
  15. Flybe reserve the right to vary the baggage charges without notice. Charges will be applied at the prevailing rate at the time bags are booked.
