Flybe, Europe’s largest independent regional airline, has announced a seventh route to Cornwall for summer with the news today of a three times weekly service between Newquay Cornwall Airport and London Southend. The route was abruptly dropped by EasyJet recently leaving many people in the lurch.

Seats are on sale from Tuesday 28th January at www.flybe.com with one way fares from £24.99 including taxes and charges and effective for extended summer travel between 16th May and 27th September, 2014.

Paul Simmons, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, says: “It was an easy decision to keep this route alive. Summer air services to Cornwall are an essential part of the tourism jigsaw that supports the South West’s leisure economy and Flybe is pleased to step in with an extended four-month summer season this year. It’s a win-win for everyone and demonstrates our commitment to Cornwall and to supporting the local economy through the development of fast, frequent and affordable leisure and business travel options.”

Newquay Cornwall Airport’s Managing Director, Al Titterington added: “This is great news from Flybe and a real boost for the airport as well as for Cornwall. We cannot overstate the importance of maintaining and developing leisure services into the county that help support the tourism economy. It’s critical for the region and so we’re naturally delighted that Flybe has stepped in to maintain this seasonal route from London Southend.”

The news comes hot on the heels of Flybe’s announcement in December that it had agreed a commercial deal with Newquay Cornwall Airport that enables it to continue operating flights between Newquay and London Gatwick from March 30th until October 25th, 2014 on a twice daily basis. This will afford a seamless service on this key route whilst Cornwall Council completes the process for Public Service Obligation (PSO) funding for the route from October 2014.

Starting at the same time as its new London Southend flights in May will be Flybe’s daily service to Birmingham, boosting to seven the number of routes it will now operate in summer from Newquay that, as well as its year-round daily flights to Manchester also includes a Saturday service to Belfast City, Edinburgh and Newcastle.

FLYBE UNVEILS MAJOR EXPANSION AT BIRMINGHAM

Europe’s leading regional airline announces ‘Magnificent Seven’ new routes including Florence, Cologne and Porto plus extra three jet aircraft to create its biggest ever base and over 1.7 million seats on sale for summer

Flybe, Europe’s largest independent regional airline, has today unveiled a major expansion of its operations at Birmingham Airport with the announcement of seven new routes that includes a six times a week service to Florence, in a first for the airport; daily flights to Cologne; a six times a week service to Toulouse; a five times a week service to Alicante and four times a week to Bordeaux, Palma Mallorca and Porto.

To support these ‘Magnificent Seven’ routes, Flybe is also adding three of its 2x2 seat Embraer 175 jets to the airport thereby creating its biggest ever regional base with 12 aircraft, thereby creating more than 50 new Flybe jobs.

The airline’s daily service to Florence, capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and those to Toulouse and Porto in particular open up some important commercial regions for business travel but also are an attractive draw for leisure as well.

Seats are on sale now at www.flybe.com plus details of full schedule, with one way fares from £34.99 including taxes and charges. Travel is effective from 10th April, 2014 to Alicante, Cologne, Florence and Porto; and from 13th May for the remaining three routes (Bordeaux, Palma and Toulouse), the majority of flights utilising Flybe’s new 88-seat E175 jet aircraft.

Paul Simmons, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer says: “Today’s news reinforces the increasing emphasis that Flybe is putting on its operations at Birmingham Airport. We’re obviously delighted to offer these additional seven new routes. Our decision to support the region by basing an extra three aircraft here is not only a vote of confidence in the local economy but also in the strong relationship we have built with the airport team.”

The news follows hot on the heels of last week’s announcement that Flybe will be boosting the frequency on three of its most popular European routes from the end of March namely those to Hanover, Milan-Malpensa and Stuttgart.

As a result of the seven new destinations announced today, Flybe will now operate 32 routes to and from Birmingham for Summer 2014 with a choice of up to 375 return flights a week totalling an impressive 1.7 million seats.

William Pearson, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Development Director, added: “By creating new jobs and offering more choice from Birmingham Airport demonstrates Flybe’s commitment to the Midlands region. Not only will this growth make Birmingham Airport Flybe’s biggest ever base, it will also become our largest carrier, flying up to 400,000 extra passengers a year and serving nearly two million travellers in total. We thank Flybe for its commitment to Birmingham and look forward to welcoming passengers on these new services this summer.”

Continues Mr Simmons: “Flybe is strongly committed to supporting the UK’s regional economies and the London-centric media coverage of the aviation debate all too often neglects the rest of the country. By substantially increasing services from the UK’s second largest city, Flybe is demonstrating it realises the importance of maintaining and developing easy and affordable choices with convenient multi frequency regional schedules. We believe that our future here in Birmingham is bright and we remain committed to continue to play an important role in the development of airline passenger services to and from Birmingham and the Midlands.”

FLYBE TO CONTINUE DAILY SUMMER SERVICE BETWEEN NEWQUAY AND LONDON GATWICK

Leading regional airline confirms new deal to retain key route for 2014 summer season

Flybe, Europe’s largest independent regional airline, has agreed a commercial deal with Newquay Cornwall Airport that will enable the airline to continue operating flights between Newquay and London Gatwick from March 30th until October 25th, 2014 on a twice daily basis. The move is specifically designed to provide a seamless service whilst Cornwall Council completes the process for Public Service Obligation (PSO) funding for the route from October 2014.

In committing to the route for the IATA summer season, Flybe’s new management team has ensured that travellers will retain their convenient and vital air link to and from the country’s capital during the crucial summer season. The Flybe service provides not only a day return schedule but critically enables passengers to connect onward to global destinations with the increasing number of IATA full-service airlines operating out of Gatwick.

Paul Simmons, Flybe’s newly appointed Chief Commercial Officer says: “Flybe has been working hard with Newquay Cornwall Airport over the past couple of months to try and secure a satisfactory resolution for Cornwall to retain a crucial lifeline air link to and from London. This is critical both for leisure and business travellers who also need the security of a schedule that allows the opportunity for convenient day returns. Flybe is therefore very pleased to have agreed a commercial deal with the airport that secures the seamless operation of this key route until the end of October next year.”

Mr Simmons added that Flybe will soon be announcing details of a brand new summer route between Newquay and Birmingham.

Al Titterington, Managing Director of Newquay Cornwall Airport comments: “We are extremely pleased with the agreement reached with Flybe for them to continue operating the vital link between Newquay and Gatwick through to autumn 2014. Flybe services from Newquay to Gatwick and Manchester offer direct connectivity in addition to the opportunity for passengers to connect onwards to destinations across UK and Europe on the Flybe network. We also welcome the introduction of the new route to Birmingham. This latest development illustrates the airport’s development strategy of connecting Cornwall with major business centres in the UK.”

A HIGH FIVE FOR FLYBE AND LOGANAIR AS THEY CELEBRATE FIVE YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH IMPROVED NORWICH – EDINBURGH SERVICE

Scottish airline Loganair has announced it will commence services between Norwich and Edinburgh, as it marks its fifth year anniversary with franchise partner, Flybe.

From the end March 2014, when Flybe withdraws from the route, Loganair will increase the frequency of its services between Norwich and Scotland’s capital, basing a second Dornier 328 aircraft at Norwich International Airport and taking on six locally based staff.

The carrier will start a double daily weekday service in April, adding a third rotation after the Easter holidays to provide a convenient business schedule. As an extra boost to passengers, a Sunday service will also be added, with Sunday frequency increasing to two flights during the peak summer season.

Loganair’s announcement comes on the five year anniversary of its franchise agreement with Flybe, Europe’s largest independent regional airline. The relationship was the first of its kind when taking to the skies at the start of the winter flying programme in 2008.

Over the past five years, a total of 2,567,110 passengers have flown over 710-million passenger kilometres* (710,813,590 passenger km or 441,679, 086 passenger miles) on 139,147 flights operated by Loganair under the Flybe brand; and over 6% of these passengers have taken advantage of the convenient connecting flights between Loganair and Flybe’s regional network. Loganair currently flies 25 routes under the Flybe brand including Norwich to Manchester and Guernsey.

Flybe’s newly appointed Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Simmons commented: “The fifth anniversary of our landmark franchise agreement with Loganair marks an important milestone with the Flybe brand. We recognise the crucial role that Loganair plays in providing critical intra regional travel and the successful partnership we have established has allowed both airlines to offer an even greater range of attractive destinations throughout the UK.”

Since 2008, Flybe’s ‘one-stop’ through-booking service has successfully dovetailed with Loganair’s schedule, opening up many new routes and connections for passengers, particularly on the Norwich to Manchester route , where over 30% of passengers ‘hub’ onto other Flybe destinations.

Phil Preston, Chief Operating Officer at Loganair, added: “It is great to be able to celebrate five successful years in partnership with Flybe, and equally pleasing to further enhance our Norwich operation.

“We are delighted to take on the Edinburgh route, and by dedicating an aircraft to this operation, provide the much needed frequency on the route to support the local business community.

“Through our partnership with Flybe, we’ve been able to develop services in Norwich, and the increased frequency on the Edinburgh route, which will also open up connections onto our extensive Scottish network including Orkney and Shetland, will be well received by business and leisure passengers.”
