Flybe’s Fast Track ‘rescue flights’ Take Off From Newquay

Europe’s largest regional airline starts operating three extra daily services to London Gatwick to alleviate loss of direct train service into Cornwall for thousands of passengers

There has been exceptional demand, reports Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, for seats on its extra flights between Newquay Cornwall and London Gatwick airports, the first of which took off this morning. This past weekend seat sales were up four-fold over the same period last year following news that the airline was adding three extra daily ‘rescue flights’ between Newquay and London Gatwick to help maintain a convenient and affordable lifeline transport link to the UK capital. The decision to boost flights is to alleviate the travel woes of the thousands of passengers displaced from the region’s rail services after storms severed the critical rail link into Cornwall last week.

Flybe acted quickly to find a way to fill the obvious gap in travel options and, as well as doubling the number of weekday flights it offers to London, it has also brought in a larger 118-seat jet aircraft to supplement its normal popular Q400 turboprop service.

By so doing, Flybe has added 4,500 seats to this lifeline route, initially for a two week trial period whilst demand for the new schedule is monitored and assessed.

Seats are on sale with one way fares from £36.99 inclusive of taxes and charges.
