Flybe, Europe’s largest independent regional airline, sent sausages soaring to the sky today to mark the start of its new four times a week service between Birmingham and Ireland West Airport Knock that, in a ‘sizzling sausage swap’, is also celebrating British Sausage Week!
Travellers at Birmingham Airport witnessed Gina Lashford from local Birmingham butcher A W Lashford, carry its speciality white sausage on board Flybe’s flight to Knock where, together with Flybe Regional Sales Manager Paul Willoughby, she was met by Sean Kelly of Kelly’s Butchers and three yards of his speciality Greenway sausage and a giant black pudding in the shape of a pint of Irish stout.
Both award winning butchers then travelled back to Birmingham on the return flight where they and their meaty morsels headed to the Old Joint Stock in Birmingham city centre to be welcomed by celebrity chef and British Sausage Week’s celebrity ambassador, Simon Rimmer, who was there to judge the British Banger Award for the West Midlands region.

Flybe’s new route operates on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with one way fares from £39.99 / €45 including taxes and airport charges.
