A group of Flybe managers has today been presented with awards by the airline’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jim French CBE on becoming the first group of employees to have completed the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Leadership and Business Practice degree through a unique delivery model resulting from Flybe’s ground-breaking partnership with the University of Exeter and Exeter College.
On presenting staff with their awards, Mr French commented that the airline’s now well-established partnership with the city’s two leading higher education establishments has proved extremely successful, adding: “As the economic situation throughout the country remains challenging, the issue of skills’ development continues to remain top of mind. We are proud that our Academy is now established and recognised globally as a well-respected skills’ training centre for pilots, engineers and cabin crew and today is further proof that it is now broadening its joint offering to include quality management training.
“Flybe is very proud of every single one of this group’s achievements. Our academic partnership with the University of Exeter and Exeter College is a hugely important one and is a shining example of the benefits that can be attained when such a private/public alliance is forged. Congratulations to all our Flybe employees here today who have completed this degree that will undoubtedly enhance their future career paths.”
The one-year programme evolved as a natural progression of the Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management in the Air Travel Industry that was offered initially through the Flybe Talent Management Programme in 2009. The programme was written as an intensive 12-month course, allowing students to continue their studies at degree-level whilst still working full-time. The programme was delivered through master classes that included a mixture of formal lectures, practical sessions and academic tutorials, supported by a wide spectrum of expert speaker sessions led by high profile UK business leaders and senior managers from Flybe.
The group’s formal graduation ceremony will take place in January 2014.
