Flybe Launches Get More Initiative To Simplify Gds 'bundled' Bookings

Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline, has launched an initiative that offers the trade a quick and easy way to sell and book its popular New Economy product via a unique fare basis that includes a single bundle supplement so there are no SSR entries required or any additional payments via MCOs.

Following the airline’s introduction of its ‘Making flying better’ initiative earlier this year that incorporates the New Economy product, a popular value-for-money package that offers added- benefits for customers namely 10kg hand bag allowance, a free standard sized hold bag, free advance seat selection at the time of booking and a free itinerary change, Flybe has been working closely with its GDS providers to develop a more streamlined solution to make it easier for the trade to process.

Stephen Hobday, Flybe’s Director of Sales comments: “Whilst the undoubted benefits of New Economy sell themselves, we nevertheless needed to create a mechanism to save time for TMCs and costs for corporate customers when booking in the GDS. With the support of our trade and GDS partners, we are delighted to have now achieved this to everyone’s satisfaction.

“Previously this bundle had to be booked separately to the fare, with an MCO issued and additional SSRs for baggage and other added elements.  This has now been loaded as a special fare basis across all distribution channels.”

The introduction of the New Economy option has been a key component in Flybe’s ‘Making flying better’ strategy which encompasses the entire flying experience – from the choices that are made during the booking process, through an enhanced airport experience right through to the flight itself. Other initiatives have included the introduction of our Manchester hub which provides improved frequency and convenient connectivity, and the introduction of our new 88-seat Embraer 175 jets into the fleet that continue to generate extremely positive passenger reviews.”

Robin Ranken, Head of Supplier Europe from Travelport, Flybe’s ‘preferred GDS’ added : “We are delighted to be working with Flybe to bring their complete product offering to our travel agency customers worldwide. The new bundled fares will make it quicker and easier for agents to book and as a GDS that drives efficiencies across the travel supply chain we are excited to be working with Flybe on this latest development.”

Flybe’s Sales Team will be working with its customers and trade partners to develop further sales of New Economy and full details of GDS entries can be found by visiting Flybe’s trade pages at www.flybe.com/trade.
