Flybe has been re-confirmed as Europe’s largest regional carrier by the largest numbers of passengers carried in 2011* and is celebrating the fact that, in this year’s influential annual Airline Business Regional Rankings review, it has also received significant additional recognition as:
- Europe’s number one regional airline, ahead of the likes of Lufthansa CityLine, KLM Cityhopper and Aegean.
- Number 8 in the world measured by annual revenues (financial year to March 2012).
- Number 10 in the world in terms of the numbers of passengers carried, the next featured UK airline trailing at number 65.
- The only regional airline in the world’s top 10 which is neither owned by a larger airline nor operating exclusively feeder services for a bigger airline and therefore truly independent.
The recognition is particularly significant for Flybe in a year when it has marked its tenth anniversary since changing its business model that transformed the airline into Flybe.
Flybe Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jim French comments: “We are naturally very pleased to receive such high validation of the position Flybe has reached on the international aviation stage. Flybe is now strongly positioned as a global force within regional aviation and we are proud to be recognised alongside such airlines as SkyWest, American Eagle and ExpressJet, who are established and high profile industry leaders.”
