FLYBE’S WINDBREAKS DEBUT AT 2011 BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL

Leading regional airline shows support for Newquay’s Boardmasters Festival with a series of distinctive windbreaks along St. Ives beaches.

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline and the UK’s number one domestic carrier, landed on Newquay’s iconic beaches this weekend with the arrival of a number of colourful windbreaks providing the perfect accessory for beach-goers and surfers at last weekend’s Relentless Boardmasters Festival.

Crowds flocked to the international extreme sports and music festival at Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay over the weekend, supporting the top international athletes competing in the acclaimed surf, skate and BMX competitions. Flybe’s colourful windbreaks, wrapped in the airline’s distinctive ‘lozenges’, proved popular as supporters and competitors sheltered from off shore winds. The windbreaks were donated as part of a further roll out of Flybe’s new creative style which was successfully launched last summer.

Simon Lilley, Flybe’s Director of Marketing, comments: “Flybe is delighted to have directly supported this famous surf and skate festival. This is just another example of Flybe’s long standing support of local sporting events and teams in Cornwall, with current initiatives ranging from the Flybe Mini Masters tennis series to the recently announced two year sponsorship deal with Newquay AFC.

“As the UK’s Number One domestic airline, we know how important it is to keep Britain on the move and we especially recognise how vital it is for Cornwall to be well connected with the rest of the UK. Coinciding with the recent announcement of Flybe’s key new route from Newquay to Manchester, this latest activity is further testament of our continued commitment to Cornwall and the South West Peninsula.”

Newquay Cornwall Airport’s Managing Director, Al Titterington, adds: “This fun joint branding promotion with Flybe demonstrates Newquay Cornwall Airport and Flybe’s continued affiliation.  The windbreaks look bright, fresh and eye-catching across the Newquay beaches, they really stand out and it’s a great way to remind people about the routes on offer from Newquay with Flybe.  The airport is committed to its local community so anything that adds value to the tourism industry we’ll gladly support.”

Flybe currently operates frequent direct services to and from Newquay between London Gatwick, Edinburgh and Manchester. For further information and full timetables please visit the website at www.flybe.com.
