Flybe welcomes Belfast City Council's call for Public Inquiry into City Airport runway extension

Flybe, Europe’s largest and most successful regional airline, has today welcomed the news that Belfast City Council has supported the need for a Public Local Inquiry into the proposed runway extension at George Best Belfast City Airport.

Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer, Flybe, said, “We are delighted that Belfast City Council has unanimously endorsed the recommendations of both its Town Planning and Health and Environmental Services Committees to call for this essential Public Inquiry.  It is only by examining all the issues in public that everyone can be assured of a fully transparent decision-making process.”

“Flybe maintains its stance that the runway extension is completely unnecessary and given the overwhelming level of objections submitted to the Planning Service, we are certainly not alone in that opinion.  The vote last night by Belfast City Council in its role as the custodian of the wellbeing of the whole city and of its population across age, gender and political allegiance, must be respected and acted upon.”
