About the city
Exeter is located on the River Exe in the county of Devon in the South West of England.
Dating back beyond Norman times, when the beautiful cathedral was built, the city is brimming with history. Exeter is the county’s capital and therefore offers a wealth of facilities and services that you would expect from a modern city, including a strong commercial industry.
From Exeter you have gateways to the moorlands of Exmoor and Dartmoor but also with easy access to the coast and beaches of Exmouth and Sidmouth. The historic quay has bars and cafes and is a magnet for locals and visitors during the summer for days sat enjoying the sun by the river or taking a stroll along the city’s locks.
Education
Exeter schools are in the UK's top league for 16 plus exam achievements. Pupils are more likely to get two or more A-Levels than anywhere else in England and Wales.
The South West also has the lowest rate of truancy.
Exeter is also home to one of the world’s top 200 universities, supporting and teaching nearly 20,000 students. It offers research and study in the sciences, social sciences, business, humanities and arts, and adds a cosmopolitan edge to our city.
Transport links
The M5 provides easy access towards Bristol and on to Birmingham and the North. 
Two major stations in the city operate direct services to a variety of destinations in the South West and along the south coast, where connections can be made. Also, and perhaps most importantly of course, flights from Exeter International Airport can take you all over the world.
Leisure
The city itself provides residents, commuters and visitors with a whole host of activities and facilities to enjoy.
History enthusiasts can experience our rich heritage in the form of the cathedral, guided tours and underground passageways. Three different prominent shopping areas offer both high street stores and unique boutiques. Then there are the never ending possibilities in the surrounding area.
Devon is brimming with sweeping countryside and green landscapes. The most famous and impressive of these spaces is Dartmouth National Park which is less than an hours drive away. Add another hour to this and you’ll reach Exmoor National Park. There are also all the delights of two different coastlines; part of England’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage site - Devon’s Jurassic Coast; and the surfing hot spots of Cornwall.
