Cancer Research UK
Flybe
is proud to be the only airline partner of Cancer Research UK, the world’s
leading charity dedicated to cancer research. The partnership was launched
on October 21st 2008 when Flybe unveiled a dedicated plane to honour the new
relationship and raise awareness of Cancer Research UK’s life-saving
work.
Cancer is a disease that touches everyone. One in three people in the UK will develop cancer at some time in their lives and more than 250,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK – that’s the equivalent of nine full Flybe aircraft every day of the year.
More and more people are surviving the disease thanks to huge advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer made possible by ongoing research. All money raised by Flybe will help fund the vital research of over 3,500 research scientists, doctors and nurses throughout the UK and, ultimately, to beat cancer.
There will be opportunities for passengers to donate to Cancer Research UK with Flybe by purchasing our very own Freddy the Flybe Bear on-board. Flybe is also dedicating June to Cancer Research UK and carrying out on-board collections on each and every one of its flights during that month.
In the first year of the partnership, Flybe staff and passengers managed to raise an incredible £153,373, prompting Tim Rowland from Cancer Research UK to comment:
“It's been an amazing year. The fundraising total
just kept going up virtually every day as the company’s charity champions
across the UK e-mailed details of yet another success story. Everyone has
done an amazing job and they can be confident that, because of their overwhelming
support, they have contributed to the charity’s work to beat cancer.”
