Viennese Equestrian Stars

No guide to Vienna would be complete without mention of its famed Spanish Riding School, where Lipizzan horses are trained in the fine art of dressage. Elegant horse and rider performances at the school see the animals moving to choreographed routines, impressing audiences with their harmonious synchronisation. Shows are staged within Vienna’s Imperial Palace, a grand setting for such a cultivated sport. Daily rehearsal shows take place in the mornings for those that simply want a peek behind the scenes of the equestrian action.

Habsburgs: Gone But Not Forgotten

In the centre of Vienna lies the Imperial Palace Hofburg, a 13th century castle from which the imperial family ruled until 1918. Trace 700 years of Habsburg empire rule by taking a private tour of the Imperial apartments, visiting the Imperial Crypt and viewing the various art collections housed within the complex. On the impressive grounds also lie the Natural History Museum, the National Library, the National Theatre Museum as well as a live butterfly park. Hofburg Vienna demands at least a day of any visitor’s time, if not considerably more.
