London Gatwick Airport is well served by local transport and there are a number of options for your journey to and from the airport.
There are short stay and long stay car parks at London Gatwick Airport. The long stay car park at the South Terminal is within walking distance of the airport, while a free shuttle bus will take you to the terminal building from the North Terminal long stay car park. Both the North and South Terminal short stay car parks are within walking distance of the terminal buildings. There are also pick-up and drop-off points at the airport. It is best to book parking in advance of your journey as you could make significant savings.
The London Underground service does not run to London Gatwick but the airport is served by a railway station, from which regular express trains depart to central London. Trains run every 15 minutes and the journey to London Victoria, from where the rest of the city is easily accessible by tube, takes around 30 minutes. It is also possible to get trains from the airport to other locations, such as St Pancras International, Southampton, Portsmouth, Brighton and Reading. There are also buses available from both terminals. These local services run between London Gatwick and nearby towns such as Crawley, Horley, Redhill and Horsham.
Taxis are available from London Gatwick Airport and it is possible to pre-book. However, taxis in London are expensive and a typical journey into the centre of the city will cost around £95, plus an £8 congestion charge if your journey takes you within the charging zone.
It is possible to hire a car at the airport upon arrival. It is not necessary but you may wish to book in advance to secure your desired vehicle and the best possible deal. A number of car hire companies operate from the airport. Their offices are located on level 1 of the North Terminal.
