The largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey sits between the northern coast of France and the southern coast of England. The island is surrounded by 15 miles of gorgeous sandy beaches, making it an ideal choice for a relaxing seaside getaway. Whether you’re a culture vulture, a nature lover, or a shopaholic, a trip to Jersey is sure to satisfy all your holiday needs. There’s no shortage of museums, churches and old houses where you can learn more about the island’s rich history, and fantastic opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts to go on long rambles and absorb the sensational natural environment. If you like the idea of an expert showing you around, you’re in luck; there are plenty of opportunities to take organised tours and ensure you don’t miss any of the major attractions. With great music, entertainment and food on offer, Jersey is packed full of fabulous ways to unwind.
Unsurprisingly given Jersey's geographical location, seafood has always been a big favourite, and there are plenty of beachside eateries serving up the best the ocean has to offer. Try Beau Rivage, which treats diners to scrumptious seafood dishes as well as breathtaking views of St Brelade’s Bay. If you’re not too full after your feast, check out Jersey’s buzzing evening entertainment scene. Whether you’re into good old fashioned pubs, sophisticated bars or live music, you’ll find something that floats your boat.
If you’re looking to make the most of your holiday cash while you’re in Jersey, St Helier – the island’s capital – is probably the best place to do it. Here you’ll find several streets chock-full of shops. For well-known retailers such as Next, Topshop and Marks & Spencer, head to the pedestrianised area that runs the length of King Street and Queen Street. Also on King Street are the two staple Jersey department stores, De Gruchy’s and Voisins. The beating heart of St Helier is the Central Market, a Victorian covered market that houses exquisite flower displays, stalls selling traditional Jersey preserves, specialist chocolate-makers and much more.
Every September, Jersey plays host to the Branchage Film Festival, four days of fantastic film screenings, live comedy and spoken word events. Alternatively, you might want to time your holiday to coincide with Tennerfest, a six week period when nearly two hundred Jersey restaurants agree to serve meals at fixed prices. You’ll be able to get your teeth into a delicious plate of grub for just £10. There are countless activities and attractions to enjoy in Jersey, from fishing, golf and cycling to skydiving, rock climbing and surfing. Jersey has a fascinating history ready and waiting for you to discover on the Occupation Trail, which charts the German military occupation of the island during World War II.
Jersey Airport is located just over four and a half miles from St Helier. Despite the island’s small size, there are good transport links in Jersey so you should find travelling to and from the airport a hassle-free experience.
