Cheap flights near Galway and how to get there

Galway is known as 'Ireland's Cultural Heart' and hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, such as the Galway Arts Festival. The city has a vibrant and varied nightlife, with plenty of traditional pubs, trendy bars, bustling clubs and live music venues. Many people choose to take one of our cheap flights near Galway for the world famous Galway Races, the highlight of the Irish racing calendar, which takes place in July every year. There are also numerous other race meetings throughout the season.

We offer flights near Galway to both Knock and Dublin. Knock is the closer of the two, although Dublin isn't much further away. If you make your way from the Irish capital, you will also get the chance to explore, or simply view, the glorious countryside en route.

Knock or Dublin to Galway by car

There are car hire companies at both Dublin and Knock ' Ireland West airports and if you are planning to explore Ireland in total freedom, you may wish to hire a car and make your own way to Galway. The journey from Knock is very straightforward and will take around 90 minutes. After leaving the airport, head west on the R376, then join the N17. Galway is well signposted from here.

The journey from Dublin will take slightly longer, at just over two hours. The drive itself is fairly simple. After leaving the airport, follow the signs for the M50, which is a partial toll road. Exit the M50 at junction 7, follow the signs for the M4 and then follow the signs for Galway.

Knock or Dublin to Galway by taxi

It will be very expensive to get a taxi from Knock to Galway if you simply arrive and take one from the airport. However, there are a number of firms that offer pre-booked services and if you book in advance, it shouldn't be too expensive. If you shop around and make arrangements prior to travel, you could get a good deal.

There are also taxis at Dublin Airport but we would not recommend taking one all the way to Galway. If you are keen to travel by taxi to Galway, you will have to make arrangements in advance of travel.

Knock or Dublin to Galway by public transport

There is a direct bus service from Knock to Galway which runs on a regular basis and isn't too expensive. This is the best way to reach Galway from Knock as there are regular buses between the two.

If you are taking one of our cheap flights near Galway to Dublin, the best way to reach Galway is by train. A shuttle bus will take you from Dublin Airport to the city and from Dublin's Heuston Station there are regular trains to Galway. The journey will take around three hours.
