Set in the Mediterranean Sea next to the Italian island of Sardinia, Corsica's vibe is very different to that of mainland France. With a stunning landscape and warm weather, the summer months make for an ideal time to visit. Lovers of nature won't be disappointed, as the unspoilt beauty stretches from coast to coast, whilst foodies and adrenaline seekers are also catered for in the form of water sports, hiking and numerous cafes and restaurants. Having seen a number of invaders over the years, Corsica retains a unique character and even has its own language: Corsican. Whether you're travelling for business or pleasure, discover all the island has to offer with our travel guide below.
With a Mediterranean climate and a close proximity to the island of Sardinia, it comes as no surprise that the blend of French and Italian cuisine on offer makes for a foodie's paradise. For dining with a view, whatever the weather, head to Le Cosi on the seafront and enjoy a Mediterranean meal under the stone arches or try Grazie Mille for top notch Italian cuisine. Après beach or post meal, we recommend heading to Raugi Glacier on Rue du Chanoine Colombani for the best ice cream in town.
As one of the first ports of call for visitors from the mainland, Bastia's centre boasts a number of shops selling everything from designer clothes to local delicacies, especially along Boulevard Paoli. Wander further and you'll discover an array of boutiques. If you're visiting on a Saturday or Sunday, be sure to check out one of the markets that sell mouth-watering local food and produce.
Beaches are abound in Corsica, and sun worshipers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to lounging shore side. Just south of Bastia lies Plage l'Arinella - a stretch of sandy beach that's perfect for relaxing or, for more active types, getting out on the water. The old port in Bastia is a great place for a post meal stroll, with multi-million pound yachts flanked by stunning architecture, it makes for the perfect spot to wander or simply people watch.
If you'd like to get out and explore the island further, we recommend checking out Calvi (easily accessible by car or bus) and it’s Citadel. Home to a number of cafés and shops, the real treat comes from the views at the top.
